“You have something that belongs to me,” Lynx hissed, refusing to make eye contact with Kitrina. She toyed with the locket in her hand, threading the gold chain through her fingers absentmindedly while also hoping for it to catch Kitrina’s eye. “Now to make fair, I have something of yours.”

She stopped all movement suddenly before whipping her head toward Kit and giving her a very stern gaze. “Hand it over and we end this quickly and while we are at it you tell me who you’re working for.”

Propositioning the girl into joining her ranks could wait until later, first Lynx wanted the drive in her hands and second, she wanted to be certain rival gangs weren’t trying to get the jump on her. If one of her opponents had gotten their hands on a thief this good then clearly they were trying to send Lynx a message— a warning. And names like Falcone, though their stomping ground was far from her Hong Kong, still carried weight even here and Lynx wasn’t too sure she wanted to get wrapped up in Gotham City’s gangs again, even if the Golden Dragons still had footholds there.

While Kitrina kept a calm and collected composure, she was panicking on the inside. That was her mother’s necklace that the girl had taken, one of the very few things Kitrina cherished. Her mind raced as she tried to think of a way to get the locket back safely. She could pretend that it didn’t mean anything to her?

No. This girl was smart; she knew how to play games just as well as Kitrina did. Surely she would destroy the locket if Kitrina said it meant nothing to her. She stared at the locket in the girl’s hand as she twisted it around between her fingers. There seemed to be no other way, except-

Kitrina could take the deal. She could forget about the warehouse- there would be other days, other opportunities- and hand the drive over in exchange for her mother’s beloved locket.

Yes, she would give up her selfish pride of being the best damn cat burglar there was and give Lynx the stolen flash drive. The locket had belonged to her mother, who was murdered because her selfish father couldn’t protect her. Kitrina had expected it though, being the daughter of a mob boss and all.

Kit hesitantly took off her hot-pink back pack, digging into the front pocket and pulling out the small piece of plastic to which the girl was demanding. As she was about to close the pocket, Kit noticed the piece of paper that still had the address to the warehouse on it from when she wrote it down. She held back a smirk. Kitrina would give the girl the flash drive, and then take the treasures inside the warehouse all for her self. After zipping up her backpack and slipping her arms through the straps, she closed her palm around the drive and looked up at the girl. Kitrina had to be smart about this.

“I’m my own boss.” Kit stated, “And if you want the flash drive so badly, you can have it. Just give me the necklace.”

It was quite like watching two cats have a stand down over the scraps in an alley way trash can, backs arched, claws protruding, yet they still managed to stay perfectly calm and cautious. Fully aware of their opponents every movement. Every twitch of the flank. Every dart of the eye.
Lynx’s plan was going over smoothly, far too smoothly. Something was up, no one would give up that quickly, especially not one trained in the art of thieving.
After scanning Kitrina’s face for any signs of trickery, Ling decided she wasn’t being completely truthful, she was hiding something. So, she tucked the locket safely in the pouch on strapped to her leg.
”No, too young.” Lynx replied, “Too good.”

She slowly hopped off the window sill, making her way over to Kitrina but keeping a fair amount of distance, just in case things got ugly.
”Who taught you?” It was a simple question, King Snake had taught her most of what she knew, aside from the skills she’d picked up on her own. But Kit was good, not perfect, but good— Definitely not an amateur. She had to know. Had to make sure no one was invading her territory.
